Why the Lubavitch Restaurant in Glasgow should be and must be supported

From the Desk of Rabbi Jeremy Rosen New York. USA

 16 March 2006

Dear Chaim & Sora

I write to encourage you to persevere in your efforts to establish a kosher restaurant in Glasgow.

There are all kinds of arguments against trying to set up a kosher restaurant particularly given the record of past failures.

But I believe your project is different for two reasons:

First of all you are trying to establish a place where young and not so young Jews can get together in a conducive atmosphere. You have a social and communal agenda which raises the project’s profile and adds an important extra ingredient.

Secondly, although you have rightly complied with good commercial practice in drawing up a business plan, what the plan does not and cannot describe is your own personal record of defying the odds. And then there is your family’s dedication and track record of serving the Glasgow community which makes this plan totally different to any of the other purely commercial ventures.

I hope you can get the backing and support your are looking for. I do hope the community will support this venture in every way.

With warmest regards to you, your family and all the wonderful people of Glasgow I have such fond memories of.

 Jeremy (Rosen)
